DESIGNThe Hallite 754 double-acting piston seal is a compact, low friction seal for light to medium duty applications. The Hallite 754 is comprised of a tough, wear-resistant thermoplastic elastomer face seal which is pre-loaded by a NBR O-ring. The face material comes in a number of material options to extend operating conditions. The housing width allows a narrow width piston to be used. We recommend that an adequate bearing, such as the Hallite 506 or 87 bearing strip, is mounted on one or both sides of the seal. The range covers most standard housings used in Europe, North America and Asia.The Hallite 606 is designed to have an interference in the seal housing groove. The outer dynamic lip is shorter and more robust to improve sealing and compression set characteristics over conventional, symmetrical U-rings.The seal is recommended for use in single-acting piston seal applications. It can also be fitted back-to-back in separate grooves for use in double-acting applications. The Hallite 606 is moulded in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance.

The sealing lips are trimmed at an angle to give optimal sealing performance.The symmetry of the Hallite 601 makes it ideally suited for single-acting rod or piston applications. The Hallite 601 can also be fitted back-to-back for use in double-acting applications, but the Hallite 606 single-acting piston seal is the preferred option.

The inner dynamic lip is shorter and more robust to improving sealing and compression set characteristics over conventional, symmetrical U-rings.The Hallite 605 is moulded in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance.

Design A medium to heavy duty double acting seal, the Hallite 56 has shown itself over many years to be an effective androbust piston seal in a wide variety of applications. Designed for split pistons it offers the benefits in terms ofsealing efficiency and low friction gained from rubber/fabric and a specific proportion of rubber in contact with thecylinder surface.The centre of the seal is rubber which is bonded to two ‘U’ section bases of rubberised fabric, and is compressedby the housing to obtain an effective low pressure seal. When the pressure increases the rubber energises the ‘U’section and deforms it to the housing, increasing the sealing area and improving the seal.Rubberised fabric is used to protect the rubber because it has strength and durability which combines with itsability to retain lubricant, to help keep friction low and reduce wear.The proportions of the range have been determined to give a satisfactory performance when used with therecommended operating conditions.

DESIGNHallite’s 616 is a compact, asymmetric twin lip rod seal offering excellent dry rod sealing for light and medium-duty applications where space and friction are at a premium. The seal is manufactured in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance. The Hallite 616 design incorporates the sealing efficiency of the Hallite 605 rod seal with the compact grooves used by PTFE rod seals. Hallite recommends using our 616 rod seal as either a single seal or in combination with the Hallite R16 PTFE rod seal. The combination is recommended for use in applications where pressure peaks may occur, such as cylinders with cushioning. The Hallite R16 PTFE rod seal is fitted into the groove on the pressure side of the gland and the Hallite 616 is used as the secondary seal to ensure minimal leakage. Consult your local Hallite office when considering this arrangement.

DESIGNThe Hallite 513 is a standard profile loaded U-cup with precision trimmed sealing lips manufactured in either a polyurethane or polyester shell energised by a high quality O-ring and designed for common North American grooves. The sealing lips are trimmed at an angle to give optimal rod sealing performance. In most cases, the deep profile of the Hallite 513 provides extra stability needed to resist rolling in the groove. Together these features result in improved life and sealing.At zero or low pressure, the O-ring helps to increase the sealing force preventing any bypass. Under most conditions as the pressure rises, the sealing force increases and the O-ring ensures complete lip actuation.The symmetry of the Hallite 513 makes it ideally suited for single-acting rod and piston applications. However, the Hallite 513 is not recommended for use in back-to back double-acting applications.

DESIGNThe Hallite 511 is a standard profile loaded U-cup with precision trimmed sealing lips manufactured in either a polyurethane or polyester shell energised by a high quality O-ring and designed for common North American square grooves. At zero or low pressure, the O-ring helps to increase the sealing force preventing any bypass. Under most conditions as the pressure rises, the sealing force increases and the O-ring ensures complete lip actuation.The symmetry of the Hallite 511 makes it ideally suited for single-acting rod and piston applications and its flexibility enables easy installation. The 511 can also be fitted back-to-back for use in double-acting applications. Although the Hallite 511 can be used as a rod seal, other Hallite non-square rod seals are more suitable options, such as the Hallite 513, 605, or 621.

TC oil seals also known as Double Lip Oil Seals, have two sealing lips. The primary lip prevents the leakage of lubricants, while the secondary lip keeps dirt and other contaminants out of the system. This makes TC oil seals ideal for applications where contamination is a concern. They are often used in automotive applications, such as wheel bearings and transmissions.

Radial shaft seals are used between rotating and stationary machine components, or between components in relative motion. HMSA10 seals are designed with a rubber outside diameter. They have a conventional sealing lip made of elastomer. A garter spring in the seal and a non-contacting auxiliary lip optimize the sealing against the shaft also in polluted environment.

When thepressure increases the rubber energises the U form to increase the sealing area and hence the efficiency of the seal. Thestrength and durability of the rubberised fabric combines with its ability to retain lubricant keeping friction and wear to aminimum.In a piston application the Hallite 18 should not be used back to back to make a double acting assembly.The range should be fitted to split housings as shown, but sizes marked* can be fitted to a grooved gland housing, ifassembled with care.NB: Size lists give "on line" tolerances for rod applications.
